Menlo Park

Menlo Park keeps us busy with wood. Privacy fences that have finally given out, gates that have not latched properly in years, and decks that were built on posts nobody set in concrete. Rebuilding those correctly is unglamorous work, but it is the difference between a fence that lasts fifteen years and one that leans by the third winter.

We set posts in concrete at the right depth, frame square, use pressure-treated material anywhere the wood meets the ground, and leave the gaps the boards need to move without splitting. Then we stain or seal before we leave, so the wood starts out protected instead of weathering while someone finds the time.
